Monongahela National Forest

Monongahela National Forest encompasses over 900,000 in the rugged Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. Monongahela is about 4 hours west of Washington DC and has five federal wilderness areas including Dolly Sods, and the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area. The forest contains over 500 miles of hiking trails, 75 tree species, and the highest point in West Virginia, Spruce Knob, at 4,861 feet.
