Catoctin Mountain Park
Under the management of the National Park Service, Catoctin Mountain Park is located in Frederick County, Maryland about 65 miles northwest of Washington DC, near Thurmont. The park spans close to 6,000 acres and contains 25 miles of hiking trails through forests of hardwoods such as hickories, black birches, chestnut oaks, among other trees. There are various natural areas such as Hog Rock at 1,610 feet and other rocks and vistas that provide spectacular views of the Catoctin and Appalachian Mountains. There are also cultural sites such as the Blue Blazes Whiskey Still. Cunningham Falls State Park borders Catoctin to the south.
